Abhishek Kumar Elected Fellow of the American Physical Society

The American Physical Society (APS) is one of the world’s leading professional organizations dedicated to advancing physics and supporting the global physics community. Election as an APS Fellow is one of the Society’s highest honors and recognizes members who have made exceptional contributions to physics through research, teaching, leadership, service, and other professional activities.

At the September council meeting of the American Physical Society (APS) Forum on International Physics (FIP), CQCI and Cellular and Regenerative Biology faculty member Prof. Abhishek Kumar was elected as a Fellow of the APS.

Prof. Abhishek Kumar

The council recognized Prof. Kumar for:

Advancing optical microscopy through novel physics in light-sheet, polarization, line-scan fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, total internal reflection fluorescence/structured illumination microscopy, bioluminescence, and metasurface optics, and for broadening access through open instrumentation, global training, and APS service.

Fellowship is limited to less than one-half of one percent of the total body of APS, an organization of well over 50,000 members.

Prof. Kumar said of the honor, “I truly see this recognition as a reflection of the wonderful colleagues, mentors, and institutions I have had the privilege of working with, rather than of my individual accomplishments alone.”
